What is the significance of 80s rock bands by imititating female look with long hair, tights, and make up?

Do you think this was partly responsible for the beggining of effeminization of men as if though it became cool for men to look like women? Also, do you think the advancement of technology played a part in this? What is the significance of 80s rock bands by imititating female look with long hair, tights, and make up?
It's rebellious and pushing limits. It was just a style, it didn't make them any more or less effeminate. Wearing makeup and having long hair isn't what makes you a woman.

People today for some reason see clothing as so engendered . Short hair, pants = man. Long hair, dress= woman.

Back in the day everyone had long hair and wore togas. Were they all effeminate?

EDIT: Like the hippies before them glam rock probably help expand people's ideas gender. They could see that makeup on a man didn't make him any less of a man. Sort of the individual expression that was missing in, say, the 50's.What is the significance of 80s rock bands by imititating female look with long hair, tights, and make up?
Long hair for men was in fashion late 60's, 70's and 80's. In the early 70's David Bowie and Alice Cooper wore makeup but that was of their shows. They were theatrical and were presenting their characters. Kiss wore make up in the 70's. Pop stars dressed flamboyant in those days because it was about the era of excess and showmanship.
it was considered super macho to adopt that style.

Long hair was considered masculine

Think Samson and Delilah, dear.
No it was a follow up of the ';hippie look'; when guys started letting their hair grow long. It was a form of rebellion.
